Project history

There were minor utility landing craft comparable to the US LCU, but derived from the wartime German MFP-D. Project 189 differed in having a small cargo hold forward of the bridge, served by a crane.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

MDK-253 ran aground in February 1972 during a storm off Koroviy Cape (Rybachiy Peninsula). Later one ship was converted to cable vessel KS-9, one became combat dolphins carrier OS-243.
