Project history

Grayback and Growler were laid down as sisters to Darter, then cut in two and lengthened by ~15m to accommodate two cylindrical hangars for Regulus missiles.

Modernizations

1964: - 2 x 1 Regulus I SSM (4 SSM-N-8)

Naval service

Both were decommissioned in May 1964 when Regulus was retired.
