Small iron-hulled ironclads, completed in 1869, brig-rigged and with a ram bow and a single funnel. Amidships there was a central box battery, with 4 178mm Armstrong ML, surmounted by a single 229mm 12.5t Armstrong ML in a centreline barbette mounted between the mainmast and the funnel and training 100° on each beam. The hull had a double bottom, but was very lightly built. They were originally ordered by Egypt but were delivered to Turkey.
There was a complete wl belt, 152mm thick above lwl and 114mm thick below, which extended 1.3m above and 1.8m below lwl
