Project history E1 was originally built 1943-44 and transferred in 1959 after modernization under Fleet Snorkel design. Other submarines were modernized under GUPPY IIA program.
E1 was originally built 1943-44 and transferred in 1959 after modernization under Fleet Snorkel design. Other submarines were modernized under GUPPY IIA program. Modernizations: 1965, Almirante García de los Reyes: aft TTs were converted for firing ASW torpedoes (22 torpedoes at all).
Naval service
Although due for deletion in 1975, Almirante García de los Reyes was retained in service until 1982, because of machinery defects in Narciso Monturiol. S33 Narciso Monturiol was laid up with mechanical defects in 1975; when deleted in 1977 her name was transferred to S35.
