Project history

This design used the same 'HEN' powerplant as the Project 658. Like them, it carried the new 40cm anti-escort torpedo. These ships were designed for strategic attack; they could not accommodate the guidance radar needed to target P-5 missiles against ships.

1962, all: - 6 x 1 P-5 CruM; + 6 x 1 P-5D CruM

1968, K-45, K-122; 1970, K-59; 1973, K-66; 1976, K-151 - under Project 659T: - 6 x 1 P-5D CruM, torpedo stowage was increased to 20 533mm and 12 400mm; 3650/4709t, 111.2x9.20x6.20m, 15.1/24kts, compl. 98
