Project history

Former USN light cruiser CL5 Milwaukee of Omaha class. 10.4.1944 she was transferred to the USSR on account of reparations from Italy, 20.4.1944 was commissioned by Northern Fleet as Murmansk. Actual speed did not exceed 28.76kts.

Ship protection

Main 5.8m high belt protected only machinery and was closed by 38mm fore and 76mm aft bulkheads. Main deck consisted of 22mm STS armour and 15mm plating. Guns had only 6mm protection.

16.3.1949 Murmansk was returned to the USA at Philadelphia and 10.12.1949 sold for scrap.
