Project history

1st rate steam vessel, since 1844 1st class sloop. Symonds and Edye design, approved in 1836. Initially schooner rig, later brig-rigged. The original design provided 16 32pdr guns on medium and upper decks and 220nhp engine. As troopship Gorgon can carry 160troops with field guns and their limbers.
