Ship project history: Repetition of boats of "" class of 1940 program with increased endurance. Ballast tanks, adopted to carry an additional stock of fuel were welded. Full displacement with maximal fuel stowage was 1440t. Ships of 2nd group had fulfilled welded pressure hull at the expense of what an operational diving depth was increased to 105m.

Order for 5 more subs was cancelled at the end of war.

1951 - 1956, "T Conversion", as follows: Hull and casing were streamlined, all external TT and guns were removed. Submerged power was doubled and battery capacity was increased.
