Ship project history: These ships were designed on the basis of a coastal paddle steamer Glenn Usk. First 24 have become operational in 1916. Minesweepers had good manoeuvrability. As designed, all ships should carry 2 seaplanes, but actually on one of them the aircraft did not take places.
Modernizations: none.
Naval service: 5 units were lost: Ascot 10/11/1918 was torpedoed by German submarine UB67, remaining were mined: Ludlow 29/12/1916, Plumpton 19/10/1918 was beached after being mined and broken up in situ, Kempton and Redcar 24/6/1917. After war most part was broken up or converted to merchant vessels. Atherstone and Melton were sold mercantile and renamed but returned to RN in 1939.
