Ship project history: US-built frigates of Tacoma class, delivered by lend-lease in 1944. They represented "River" design recycled under possibilities of US yards. The basic difference consisted in all-welded hulls instead of riveted. Armament structure was similar accepted on USN destroyer escorts. In total about 100 ships were built in the USA, 21 were transferred to UK.

Modernizations: 1944 - 1945, all: + (2 - 6) - 20/70 Oerlikon. Frigates carried twin and single Oerlikons. + 4 DCT. DC stowage was increased up to 160.

1945, Calder, Duckworth, Essington: - 8 x 1 - 20/70; + 7 x 1 - 40/56 Bofors
