Project history

32-gun frigates, originally corvettes. Surveyor's Department design, approved in 1855. The first pair of 'Walker Big Frigates'. Originally ordered in 1854 as 'special type (frigate-) corvettes' of 30 guns, although rated 1st class frigates. Orlando ordered in 1855, was originally built to same design. Wooden hull.
