Project history

1st class 12-gun wooden-hulled sloops. In 1862 Archer was reclassed as corvette. John Edye design, approved in 1847. Originally they were ordered as gunvessels of Rifleman class but reordered as sloops in 1847. Wasp was sheathed with Muntz metal.
