Project history

Designed by W Holt as inshore ASW craft to replace the wartime HDML with main drive diesels on wing shafts and a cruising diesel on the centre shaft. Appearance was distinctive, with two funnels side by side and a lattice mast. They were designed to carry a single-barrel Squid but this weapon did not materialize and so the lead-craft, Shalford, was fitted with a Squid triple DC mortar aft; the remainder had a standard armament of two depth charge throwers and two racks.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

No significant events.
