Project history

The MILGEM national corvette program is the first modern warship class to be produced and designed domestically in Turkey. Up to ten units eventually may be built for the Turkish navy. The 12.7mm guns in auto-stabilized Aselsan STAMP mounts are guided via an electro-optic sensor; they can be fired manually or automatically. Twin ASW torpedo tubes appear to have been taken from the retired Knox-class units. The class can achieve 15kts cruising speed on one diesel, 27kts on gas turbine and 30kts at full power with two diesels and the gas turbine. A high level of automation allows for reduced crew size.
