Ship project history: Patrols for Spanish Sahara, designed since 1943. 12 ships of the class (Rigel, Aldebarán, Sirius, Vega, Antares, Arcturus, Canopus, Polar, Régulo, Altair, Cástor, Póllux) were ordered 30/3/1944 and preparation works were started on SECN (Cartagena). After WWII Spanish shipbuilding industry had strong shortage of materials because of international isolation. As a result all class was cancelled, and laid down Rigel and Aldebarán were re-ordered as minesweepers Guadiaro and Tinto. Later new patrols Procyón and Pegaso were built under renewed design.
