Project history

The construction of this class spanned 13 years from the laying down of Reina Regente in June 1886 to the completion of the Lepanto in 1899. The main Hontoria guns were mounted singly on the broadside forward and aft with the 120mm in a battery amidships. The TT were fixed (aw), 2 forward, 1 aft and 1 on each broadside. On trials a mean speed of 18.6kts was obtained with natural draught by Reina Regente.

Ship protection

Main deck was 120-80mm amidships between main guns and 25mm fore and aft.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Reina Regente foundered 9.3.1895 en route from Cadiz to Tanger.
