Project history

Design was based on the basis of contemporary French battleship Marceau but with reduced draught. Originally she had 372 m2 of sails but soon after completion ship received military masts. Main guns were mounted in barbettes of Canet system, 160mm gun was a bow chaser.

Ship protection

 Main belt was 2.1m high amidships (0.6m above wl), hull had double bottom.

Modernizations

1897: boilers were replaced by 16 Niclausse ones (9473hp, 16kts, 676t of coal, 2540(10)nm); - 1 x 1 - 160/35, 12 x 1 - 120/35, 3 x 1 - 57/40, 13 x 1 - 37/20, 4 x 5 - 37/17; + 9 x 1 - 140/36 Hontoria M1883, 5 x 1 - 57/42 Nordenfelt, 14 x 1 - 37/27 Maxim; normal displacement was 9890t
