Project history
In August, 1937, simultaneously with a revision of building program of project 7 destroyers, the decision on creation of new destroyer was made. Requirement given out 15.11.1937 provided armament consisted from 4 130mm, 2 76mm, 4 37mm guns, 4 7.62mm MGs and 3 triple 533mm TTs; 38kts speed, 4000nm endurance. Ship dimensions and machinery structure corresponded to project 7u. The Basic design was developed in two variants: with single and twin 130mm turrets. Instead of 3 triple 533mm TTs both variants should carry 2 quintuple ones. As a result 27.10.1939 project 30 with twin turrets was approved, however 130mm guns remained single purpose in B-2LM turrets. Prior to the beginning of Great Patriotic War 28 ships were laid down from which 5 destroyers were launched. To the war end only Ognevoy was completed and entered in May, 1945 Black Sea Fleet. 10 more ships were completed in 1947-1950 under modified project 30K with radars and little enhanced AA armament.
