Ship project history: Built under original project off Van der Stroojf, order was given out 3/9/1921. First Dutch submarines with 533mm torpedoes (also they had 450mm TTs). Double-hulled. All ballast tank valves had an pneumatic drive and were controlled from a central station.

Modernizations: late 1920s, all: + 1 x 1 - 12.7/90

Naval service: K XIII was scuttled at Surabaya 2/3/1942.
