Project history

After mining of minesweepers Willem van Ewijck and Jan van Gelder the Dutch Naval staff has come to conclusion about necessity to have shallow draught minesweepers. In the late of 1939 the order for 12 motor minesweeping boats has been given out. Both projects were developed on the basis of German "Raumboot" though had significantly smaller dimensions.

MvI - IV, XI and XII in May, 1940 are captured by Germans on slipways and completed for Kriegsmarine as RA51-56 and all were lost in days of war. Rather MvV - X there are no exact data: under one data, their building did not begin, on another they have been completed for German Border Guard.
