Project history

Former USN Gearing FRAM I class destroyers. In 1990s both could make no more than 15kts due to boiler problems.

Modernizations

1980s, both: - LN-66 radar; + Kelvin Hughes 17/9 radar

1993, both: + 1 x 1 - 57/70 Bofors SAK57 Mk 2

1994, both: - 1 x 8 ASROC ASuR, 2 x 3 - 324 TT, SQS-23 sonar (sonar was aboard but no functional)

early 2000s, Netzahualcóyotl: - SPS-29 radar; + SPS-37 radar

2002, Netzahualcóyotl: - 1 x 1 - 57/70
