Ship project history: Maru-Yu series of IJA. Enlarged version of YU1 class boats. Ordered by Imperial Japanese Army and were financed from Army budget. They were structurally close to small naval transport submarines of Sen-Yuso-Sho type.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: YU1007, 1011, 1013 and 1014 are handed over on demolition in 1947-1948. Fate of remaining submarines is unknown.
