Ship project history: The further development of Pegaso class. The decision on building of a series from 16 ships was accepted in the early 1941 for compensation of heavy losses in destroyers. Dimensions, in comparison with a prototype, were slightly increased for stability improvement, with the same purpose side oil fuel tanks were liquidated. In May, 1943 all were reclassified from torpedo boats to escort torpedo boats.

Modernizations: mid-1943, all completed and survived: + (4 - 5) x 1 - 20/70 Scotti-Isotta Fraschini 1939

Naval service: Ardente 12/1/1943 was sunk at collision with destroyer Grecale at Sicily. Uragano 3/2/1943 was lost on a mine laid by British minelayer Abdiel off Bizerte. Monsone 1/3/1943 was sunk by American aircraft at Naples. Ciclone 7/3/1943 was lost on a mine laid by British minelayer Abdiel NE off Bizerte. Tifone 6/5/1943 was damaged by American aircraft at coast of Tunisia and 7/5/1943 has sunk. Groppo 25/5/1943 was sunk by American aircraft at Messina.

Ghibli and Impetuoso were scuttled by crews to avoid capture by German troops: former 9/9/1943 at La Spezia and latter 11/9/1943 at Majorca. Ghibli subsequently was salvaged by Germans, but never commissioned by them. Ardito and Impavido were captured by German troops in September, 1943 and renamed TA26 and TA23 respectively. TA26 was sunk 15/6/1944 by British MTBs. TA23 25/4/1944 was damaged by a mine laid by torpedo boat Sirio at Corsica and sunk by torpedo from TA29.

Intrepido was captured by German troops incomplete in September, 1943, renamed TA25, completed by Germans and sunk 21/6/1944 by British MTBs.
