Naval service: Umbria in 1911 was sold to Haiti, renamed Ferrier, and on passage to America foundered because of inexperience of new crew. All cruisers differed under the characteristics a little and were repeatedly rearmed. Elba since June, 1914 served as seaplane tender, Lombardia in 1908 became submarine tender. Liguria and Puglia in 1916-1917 were converted to minelayers. Etruria was lost 13/8/1918 at Leghorn as a result of explosion of the barge with ammunition, moored aside.
