Project history

This fully-rigged corvette was designed by Eng Insp Giuseppe Micheli and laid down as Brilliante, her name being changed to Caracciolo in Jan 1869.

Modernizations

1875: + 1 - 380 TT (beam)

1880: - 1 - 380 TT

1894: engine was removed; - 6 x 1 - 164/17; + 2 x 1 - 75/21 Uchatius 29cwt BL No1, 4 x 1 - 57/40 H

Naval service

From 1875 to 1880 she served as a TS for torpedo specialists. In 1893-94 her engine was removed and she served as a sailing ship, but with her sail plan and armament modified.
