Project history

Almost exact repetition of anti-submarine boats of I type, but with other machinery. On a centre shaft 1150hp Isotta-Fraschini engine was installed, side shafts were driven by 300hp Carraro engines. Boats reached 16kts under only the central shaft, 14kts under side shafts and 21.5kts when all engines ran. Composite hull. VAS231-236 were arranged for minesweeping.

Modernizations

1946, all survived: - 30 DC; + mechanical minesweeping gear.

Naval service

VAS240 and 241 were captured by Germans in September 1943 as RA265 and RA266 respectively and returned in 1945.
