Project history

Former USN Allen M. Sumner class destroyers. After modernization under FRAM II programme destroyers became different: the main deckhouse on Babr was widened as far forward as amidships, but only half as far forward on Palang. Both ships underwent a full refit before sailing in mid-1974 for Iran. The air-conditioning was improved, diesel-generators were replaced by more powerful, B gun-moount was removed, accommodation was altered, Canadian telescoping hangar was fitted, Standard SSM launchers were installed on a platfrom between stacks, VDS was rigged on th 01 level fwd of the bridge and two Hedgehogs were installed on B position. New torpedo stowage was mounted between the funnels to make room in the hangar and the kanding platform was widened out to the ship's sides while the old hangar was removed. Originally it was planned to transfer in March 1971 DD706 Gainard but, being beyond repair, she was replaced by Stormes.
