Project history

Former French aviso-minesweepers of Elan (SG16) class. Chamois, L`lmpetueuse and La Curieuse were scuttled at Toulon 27.10.1942, salvaged by Italians, renamed FR53-55 and put to repair; La Batailleuse was captured by German troops at Bizerte 30.11.1942 and transferred to Italy as FR51. In September, 1943 they all were captured by German troops and entered German fleet list.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

SG16 and SG17 were scuttled at Marseilles in August, 1944. SG23 in April, 1944 was reclassified to submarine chaser UJ2231 and was scuttled off Genoa 25.4.1945.
