Ship project history: Built under the 1916 program. Differed from each other a little, in particular, Marne and Aisne were twin-funneled, remaining ships had one funnel. Besides, Marne had more powerful turbines.
Modernizations: ~1920, all: armament was changed to 4 x 1 - 100/45 M1917, (1 x 1 - 75/35 M1915-18 (on Somme) or 2 x 1 - 65/50 M1902 or 2 x 1 - 47/50 M1902), 1 DCR.
Naval service: Marne participated in the French-Thai war and was scuttled in Indochina 10/3/1945, later she was raised and scrapped in 1957. Somme was paid off and broken up 14/10/1941. Yser was scuttled at Toulon 27/11/1942, salvaged, served under German flag as SG37. She was never commissioned again by French Navy and broken up in 1946.
