Ship project history: These seaplane tenders were captured by German troops in St. Nazaire on the stocks in June, 1940 at various availability stages. It was originally planned to complete them as air defence and fighter direction ships (Flügsicherungsschiffe) under names Uranus, Saturnus, Jupiter and Merkur. In February, 1941, control on building was transferred to ministry of aviation, however in April, 1942 the control was returned to Kriegsmarine, and ex-depot ships were completed as fast escorts (Schnelle Geleitboote) SG1-4. They were armed by German artillery, purposed, first of all, on AA role. During service hull weakness and bad seaworthiness have come to light. After war two survived SG1 and SG4 were returned to France and after repair commissioned as "Avisos Hydrographiques" ("aviso / survey ships") but in 1950 received numbers with F- prefixes, so we can to sign them as frigates.

Modernizing notes: None.

Naval service: Both ships were stricken in 1969.
