Ship project history: 3rd class cruisers, similar to Forbin class, were often classified as avisos. It was reported that neither ship reached 20kts speed by the reason of vibration.
Ship protection: Curved armour deck had a cofferdam above. There was a thin splinter deck over the machinery.
