Project history

First frigates to mount the Chinese-built HQ-61 SAM since the troubled Type 053K, in a sextuple mount forward of the bridge, without reloads. The 37mm guns are in the later enclosed mounts. ASW armament is limited to two type 87 RLs.

Modernizations

2009, Tongling; 2012, Huainan; 2013, Huaibei: - 1 x 2 - 100/56 type 79A; + 1 x 2 - 100/56 type 99

2016, Haijing 31239-31241: armament consisted of 4 x 2 - 37/63 type 76A, 1 helicopter (Z-9C) and sensors of type 756 and 2x type 341 radars
