Ship project history: Laid down for Italian Navy as Neghelli, Gondar and Ascianghi, sold to Brazil 10/3/1937 being outfitted. Medium submarines of so-called "600t" type (4th series). Single-hulled, with bulges. Boats were accepted by Brazilian crews at La Spezia 10/10/1937, arrived Rio de Janeiro 14/3/1938. Hull numbers were T1-3.

Modernizations: None.

Naval service: Tupy was damaged 14/12/1938 by battery explosion. Tymbira 8/10/1943 was wrongly attacked by aircraft, received air bomb hit to CT, lost some person, including commander.
