Project history

Former Allen M. Sumner class destroyers of US Navy, first was transferred non-modernized, other four received FRAM II modernization. Mato Grosso received Sea Cat SAM with M20 optical director from stricken destroyer Mariz e Barros.

Modernizations

Later years of service ships carried Jet Ranger helicopter instead of Wasp.

Naval service

Sergipe collided with a merchant vessel in November 1984 and was out of service for 8 months.
