Ship project history: Improved Smith class, completely seaworthy destroyers for the high sea, considerable exceeded in this respect all the older American torpedo ships. They differed from predecessors by using of twin TTs. Some had seldom applied triple-shaft machinery. DD24-27, 30 and 31 had three funnels and others four.
Modernizations: 1915, Mayrant: Zoelly steam turbines were replaced by Westinghouse geared steam turbines (13000 hp)
1917 - 1918, all: + 1 DCT (Y-gun), 2 DCR
Naval service: No significant events.
